E - How was your childhood, Thalía?
Thalía - I was a very happy little girl. I grew up in a loving family. We are very close to each other. We played and laugh a lot. I loved to play with the boys. I didn't like dolls and I didn't enjoy playing with other girls. I used to wear pants and I had my legs full of bruises and blood. I was always a rebel since I was a kid. I studied very hard and I was very naughty. And in my teenage years I was a very romantic girl and I still am very romantic. And I fell in love with a different guy every week but I never spoke to anyone of them or her because they're only in my dreams. My teen years were a wonderful time, high school and all those times of adolescence were very especial in my life.
E - And, tell me, how is your family?
Thalía - Well, my family is made basically by women. We are a matriarchy and we are all very strong. My father died when I was only five years old and I don't have many memories about him. Although I have such a glory in my life, a jewel who is my mom. I have four sisters, all of them are married and they have their children. I have seven nephews and nieces.... Hmmm. My grandma.... I only have one grandma who is my mother's mom. And always, I can tell to you, we are very close one to another, we fight to get the family's integrity, to help each other and to get through any hard time in our lives and still be together
E - How your family has influenced you or your career
Thalía - Well, my mom taught me since I was a kid about painting, because she is a painter. She taught me about sculpture and all of that related to manual art, if we can put it that way. My sister Laura took me to her plays on theater. And I believe that I was falling in love with this world, I was falling in love with the artistic world because of my sister Laura. My mom put me in ballet classes and to the Olympic gym and other stuff like this. But, by all means, I believe that it was Laura... she was responsible for what I am now. Because it was for her that I am where I am now.
E - Thalía, tell us a little bit about your beginning ...on the artist career
Thalía - The first time I was on a stage in front of an audience was in a festival... in the festival. in the second festival Juguemos a cantar..I took part in a group called Din Din and with this group I recorded four LPs. This group was for me like a game but it was there the place I began to get used to this singing world. Like, I went to the radio stations, and I'd contacted with my public and it was there when I started falling in love for this magic world that is singing. And, after that ... Timbiriche, I took part in another eliminatory of Juguemos a Cantar before I entered in Timbiriche well...soon I was on Vaselina.. There were many, many thing in my way till now and it would take a long time to tell you one by one.
E - How is or who is the person that gave you a start in your career?
Thalía - Well, my career as a singer began with this group that I've told you before and I was nine years old at the time. The group was called DinDin and after that we named it as Pacman. And I started in this group with Paco Ayala who was the producer and also my sister's friend, my sister's Laura friend, Laura Zapata. And she told me one day: "My little sister, I must take you to some auditions in order for you to join a group. And you'll see how nice you'll be on it. And you'll record some LPs .." And I replied: "Well, then." So, I believe that it was there where started my singing career... hum... First, it was like a game, children play with me and soon I took it more seriously when I joined Timbiriche.
E - Talking about Timbiriche, what was the best thing you learnt there and that you still use now?
Thalía - Well, about Timbiriche ... I have wonderful memories, and strong memories of that time. I have many awards thanks to the millions of presentations and concerts that we did around the world. And at those concerts we usually had thousands and thousands of people singing together and asking for more and more songs. Thanks to Timbiriche, I learnt how to stand up in front of an audience and how to manage them. I learnt how to control my space on the scene, on the stage. And I tell you now, I have wonderful memories, I made very good friends in there... Well, I have this kind of pleasure to look back and see so many records with so many success and... And it was because of those things that I could fulfill my dream to sing in this big group. It was the most important teenage group of that time. And now I sing solo and I've already had my CDs, my solo CDs. But when I joined the group I never dreamed about singing solo.
E - Why have you left Timbiriche when you are at the top on your career?
Thalía - I left Timbiriche, mostly eh.. because I needed more than that. I am a very passionate person and I like to go ahead, to try new stuff. I like to reach another goals, you know what I mean? And this was I Timbiriche. Plus, everyone wanted to fly, to go out, and to reach another areas. Eduardo was going out, Alex was going out and Mariana had left. And I didn't want to stay. I didn't want to stay at the same place. I had other offers like telenovelas or to record my own records and I decided to fly away and Thanks god everything went fine....
E - What is the success for you?
Thalía - Everyone can say that the success comes along with other things, in the same package. The most important thing to me is to do what I really like to do which is singing, acting, giving a concert to sixty thousand, a hundred thousand people and make them shake and sing with me. This is more important than go out in a big and fancy Rolls Royce or be covered with jewels or money. This is fame and success. Well... this you can't avoid also, it comes in the same package, you know.... Fame is a basic thing in every artist life.
E - Talking about your public, your audience ... What do you thing you can teach them?
Thalía - Well, talking about personal subjects I think I can teach them, or be for them as an example of a little girl that once had dreamed about becoming a star, a singer, on becoming what she wanted to be. This what I can show them. And they can say: "I can reach that also, 'cause she's got there so I can do it too". And talking about the professional stuff, I want to give them joy in every single record I made. At the time that someone listens to a song that likes they can travel far away. You travel where you can or wish to go you can travel around the world, on your inside world. And that's what I want to left for my audience, the joy of being away from those awful things that happen in our every day life. I want to give them joy, happiness and I want to give them love with my song.
E -How is a normal day in your life, in Thalía's life? What do you normally do?
Thalía - When I'm not working, when I'm not shooting any telenovela or when I'm not working on my new album I spend my whole day in my room. I wake up very late and I rent some video to watch. I order pizza or Japanese food or I invent something to do at home. I like to be on my home. And when I go out it is often to see my relatives, to see my family. I am very calm and I like being at home. Those are the things I like to do when I'm not working.
E - And when you are working?
Thalía - When I work ... Well, I have to wake up very early. And this is something I hate do. I don't like to get up early. Then I go to the studio because I have to do the make up and to study the script and I must to prepare well my character in order to be different. Then I eat very fast. I have one hour to eat and I leave to make all the promotions to the album. I've been a little mad about this new album but I loved the results. I get home very late and nothing... I have nothing more to do. So I get home, I go to bed and sleep. And I have to leave the lights on to sleep otherwise I can't sleep at all.
E- How do you define Love? And talking about it, how many "loves" are in your heart today?
Thalía - The word Love, for me, has only one meaning and it is the most important meaning for all human kind. Love is what we have always with us, the strength that carry us on, the love that makes us go ahead, this love that wake us up and put us to sleep, that loves us and gives us food to eat. For me, Love is God and there's no other definition for Love. In my heart, at this very moment, I can tell you, there's no man in there. I don't have any boyfriend but I would be delighted to have someone to love. I'm so tired of being alone. I'm so tired of not finding anyone to spend my life with. Its been such a long time since I've loved someone. My heart is still lonely and empty. My love was taken away from me. I have nobody at this moment. I wish to find someone to whom I can stay and settle down, to start a family of my own. I wish all these things very badly.
E - Now, let's talk about your new album... How would you define this new phase as a singer? (he was talking about En Extasis)
Thalía - This new phase has been wonderful for me. It is very solid, very strong. And it is very big, too. And it's already defined. It's a new step that brings all my wishes to show my talent up to my audience. I've tried to disguise my talent on the past by covering me with luxury and beautiful designing clothes and make up and after that I took it all. At this moment, I want to dedicate myself to improve my voice, to show my talent, to make people listen to my voice instead of looking to my outfits or how I'm looking today, etc. This album is a result of a very big and audacious project and it has many important people in charge of, like Don Emílio Estefan Jr that... that put his hands on this wonderful project. And Oscar López... There were songs written and composed by Juan Gabriel... by Selena's brother and there were my songs that I composed for this album and, so it's a very distinguish album. This album reflects my love and it's has been longed for my public. Because it has been three years since I went to the studio to record an album. And that's because I want to make a great work, a beautiful album and I believe that we reach our purpose.
E - Let's talk a little bit about your side as a composer... how many song in this album were written by you and how they came up?
Thalía - Well, I believe that every one of us has a little bit of a composer, you know... At any time in our lives we can take a piece of paper and start to write about things. And we write the wilder, the most romantic, or the most complex things in our lives, but we almost write about those things that come up from our inside, our hearts and minds, souls and espirits. Well, since I was a teenager girl I love to write about my stuff, things that happened to me, my little things. And, so, there's when I start to compose. And it was about such mad things. But, among these crazy and mad things it came through some songs, lyrics and harmony, Sangre, Jollie Madam, and may of them. And as the time goes by, they were like improving a little bit, you know. Like Lágrimas that is the last song I wrote and that we put in this album. This album that I love so much... This was a song that I asked my friend, Aureo Baquero that put his hands on to adjust a little thing that I couldn't manage alone. But the idea, the concept of this song is mine. And, so that's how I've always been in this field like composing, put in my song my feelings, my very hidden feelings.
E - about the politic situation in you country, what message could you leave for the Mexican people?
Thalía
- Well, at this moment, I only can tell to my people that we must not despair.
We must have a little ... we must find a little confidence in ourselves.
We must fight for our country in order not to let it go, to let it go down.
If the ones who govern this country are the responsible for this terrible
situation, for let our country fell we must to take this job in our hands
and to fight to put our country in a high position again. And most of all
we must have illusions and dreams. "Cause we al know that if we wish very
hard for something this will come true. And we must dream about building
a big country, a great Mexico.
